This Privacy Policy explains how CoughIt (“we,” “our,” or “the App”) collects, uses, stores, and discloses information when you use the App or any services that link to this notice.
By creating an account and using the App, you consent to the collection, processing, research use, and public disclosure of your data as described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to these terms, please refrain from using the App.

Information We Collect
1.1 Sign-In Credential (Required)
When you create a CoughIt account, you sign in with your existing account(for example: Google). We receive:
– Your email address(for example: Google account)
We do not receive your password. The email is used only to create your account, authenticate your access, and communicate with you when necessary.
1.2 Microphone Access and Audio Segments
To enable the CoughIt’s core functionality, you must grant microphone permission. By granting this permission, you authorize CoughIt to capture, record, and analyze audio segments. Audio segments containing recognized spoken words are discarded and are not uploaded to our servers. Please do not worry about your private conversations being recorded.
We also suggest using the App in a private space to ensure the best experience and privacy protection.
-Intent of Collection: We collect cough audio which may include environmental sounds but exclude all human voice, and your conversations are never stored.
We collect and store:
– Audio files around cough events
– Timestamp and basic acoustic features
– Derived musical mappings created by CoughIt
Please be aware that while the App focuses on cough sound, recorded segments may inadvertently capture surrounding sounds or environmental noise.
1.3 Demographic Information
We collect the following personal information from you:
– Age range
– Gender
– Musical / Educational background information
– Chronic cough history information
These labels may be included in research and public datasets, but never with identifying information.

How We Use Your Information
By using the App, you acknowledge and agree that we may use the above collected information for the following purposes:

Geographic Restriction
If you are located in a region that restricts the collection, processing, or use of biometric data (such as under the GDPR, including the EU, EEA, United Kingdom, and Switzerland), please do not use the App when others nearby are coughing unless every recorded individual has provided consent to this Privacy Policy. You are responsible for ensuring that all individuals in your vicinity have agreed to the collection and use of their data in compliance with applicable regulations.

Your Rights
Depending on your region, you may have rights to:
You can delete your account directly within the App. Upon deletion, personal information (without de-identification cough audio recordings) will be removed. If your cough audio has been used in a collaborative music creation, the shared music will be retained but your personal information will be dissociated from it.
